From March 23 to 26 2023, Passa Porta – a multilingual literature house and meeting place in Brussels – brought readers and writers together for the successful ninth edition of the Passa Porta Festival. Thousands of visitors mapped out their personal route between 13 partner venues (including La Monnaie, Ancienne Belgique, Muntpunt, MAD Brussels, La Bellone and Beursschouwburg). With big crowds and famous writers -including a Nobel Prize winner- on the program, the Festival is one of the leading literary events in Europe.
For this ninth edition, Passa Porta selected our studio as the new partner for the rebranding of the festival and its communication. We developed an appealing and activating event identity that evolved into a more accessible and flexible visual identity. With a simple intervention on their existing logo and the abstract reference to a book, the design remains closely related to their overall identity.
The on-and-offline campaign started in October 2022 with an Early Bird campaign and culminated in March 2023, with widespread advertisements, a recognizable poster campaign, eye-catching flyers and wayfinding throughout the city.
Audience, press and international literature professionals responded with praise and enthusiasm. The design is what the public expects from Passa Porta, but less complex and more daring! The rebranding generated more brand awareness for the Festival, as well as for Passa Porta as a house of literature itself.
